Rothesay Court achieves Practical Completion
Nigel Bird Architects are pleased to announce that Practical Completion has been achieved on our collaboration with ScotsCare, the UK’s oldest charity, to extend their Rothesay Court Residential Home.
The brief to provide additional flats to an existing three-storey residential building in Lewisham presented various challenges due to the restricted size of the site and the continual occupation of the building by the existing residents throughout the building works.
The solution was to remove the existing pitched roof and replace this with a new a floor, in the form of a mansard roof construction. A substantial temporary tin roof was erected throughout the building work to protect the existing building. As such, NBA were able to add 12 new flats for residents and an additional guest room, without increasing the overall height of the original building. A new lift shaft for residents was also constructed as part of the project, along with garden landscaping and a reconfigured car park.
Despite the complex nature of the construction above an existing occupied building, we succeeded in delivering this multi-residential project on-budget and safely during the current Coronavirus pandemic.
